Assembly Guides

At PhoxHunter, we want to make your experience straightforward from the moment your folding electric bike arrives. Below you will find step-by-step instructions to help you assemble your new e-bike correctly.

What's in the Box

Before you start, please check that all parts are included. Each PhoxHunter folding e-bike comes with:

  • Main frame (pre-assembled, partially folded)
  • Front wheel
  • Handlebars with display and brake levers attached
  • Seat post with saddle
  • Pedals (left and right — labeled "L" and "R")
  • Battery and charger
  • Tool kit (wrenches, hex keys, and screwdrivers)
  • User manual

If anything is missing or damaged, please contact us at support@phoxhunter.com before starting assembly.

Tools You Will Need

Most tools are included in the box. You may also want:

  • A Phillips-head screwdriver (for minor adjustments)
  • A tire pump with a pressure gauge (tires are shipped partially inflated)
  • A clean, flat workspace with good lighting

Step-by-Step Assembly Instructions

Step 0: Unfold the Frame
Carefully remove the bike from the box. Locate the folding latch on the main frame, release it, and unfold the bike until you hear a click. Make sure the latch is securely locked before proceeding.

Step 1: Attach the Front Wheel
Insert the front wheel axle into the fork. Tighten the nuts or quick-release skewer using the included wrench. Spin the wheel to ensure it rotates freely and does not rub against the brake pads. If it rubs, adjust the brake caliper position slightly.

Step 2: Install the Handlebars
Insert the handlebar stem into the steering tube. Align the handlebars so they are perpendicular to the front wheel and the display faces you. Tighten the stem bolts evenly (alternating sides). Do not overtighten.

Step 3: Mount the Pedals
Pedals are marked "L" (left) and "R" (right).
• Right pedal (R): tighten clockwise
• Left pedal (L): tighten counterclockwise
Use the included pedal wrench to tighten firmly. Loose pedals can damage the crank arm.

Step 4: Adjust the Seat Height
Insert the seat post into the frame tube. Adjust the height so your leg is slightly bent when the pedal is at its lowest point. Tighten the seat clamp or quick-release lever securely. Do not raise the seat past the "minimum insertion" line marked on the post.

Step 5: Install and Charge the Battery
Slide the battery into the mounting bracket on the frame until it clicks into place. Charge the battery before your first ride (approximately 4–6 hours). Use only the included PhoxHunter charger.

Step 6: Inflate the Tires
Tires are shipped with low pressure. Inflate both tires to the PSI range printed on the tire sidewall (typically 35–40 PSI). Do not overinflate.

Step 7: Test Electronics
Turn on the battery (press the power button on the battery itself). Then press and hold the power button on the display. Check that:

  • The display lights up and shows battery level
  • The throttle responds (without riding, check that the motor engages briefly)
  • The headlight and taillight (if equipped) turn on

Safety Check Before Your First Ride

Before you ride, complete this 7-point safety check:

  • Bolts: Check that all bolts (handlebars, seat post, wheel nuts) are tight.
  • Brakes: Squeeze both brake levers. The bike should stop firmly. Check that brake pads make contact with the wheel rim or disc.
  • Tires: Verify pressure is within the recommended range.
  • Battery: Ensure it is locked in place and cannot be removed without the key.
  • Folding latches: Make sure the frame latch and stem latch are fully closed and secure.
  • Throttle and pedal assist: Test in a safe, open area at low speed.
  • Lights and reflectors: Ensure they are clean and functioning if riding at night.

Troubleshooting Common Assembly Issues

Problem: Brakes are rubbing
Solution: Loosen the two bolts holding the brake caliper, squeeze the brake lever, and retighten while holding the lever. This centers the caliper.

Problem: Display will not turn on
Solution: Check that the battery is charged and fully inserted. Ensure all cable connectors are firmly plugged in (especially near the handlebars and battery mount).

Problem: Pedals feel loose after installation
Solution: Re-tighten the pedals. The left pedal tightens counterclockwise — this is a common mistake.

Professional Assembly Recommendation

If you are not comfortable assembling your e-bike or do not have the proper tools, we recommend taking it to a local bike shop. Most shops charge $50–$100 for e-bike assembly. Keep your receipt — we may reimburse assembly costs for warranty-related issues (contact us first).
